The Silent Teacher is a discussion of death and, its inseparable shadow, life. Revolving around the embalmed greyish body of Hsu Yu-E, the silent teacher’s corpse is donated to a medical college for dissection. The film captures the emotions and objective reality of Hsu’s family and the professors and the students in anatomy class of Fu Jen Catholic University (FJU in the film).

Listen to the inner voice of the one you love while she is traveling through the boundary between life and death. In Taiwan, medical students call the dead body used for medical dissection "the silent teacher". Due to the yearning hopeful connection of the dead in Asia, body donation is hardly acceptable. Mrs. Lin, whose body will be dissected the next year, her family and the students struggle through the travel in a different way, what influence the silent teacher will bring to? Even though her soul already leaves. What is the life? death? A story about love and understanding.

游泳教練林惠宗專程從嘉義開車北上，到輔大醫學院看他結縭23年的太太徐玉娥女士。有時候他只是看著妻子，什麼也沒說。有時候他報告生活瑣事：「孩子們和我都還好，妳放心。」這樣的事一年之內他幾乎每個月都去做。直到這次，林惠宗再也壓抑不住，過去沒有把握機會或不懂得表達的，愧疚、遺憾、思念，都隨著決堤的淚水傾瀉而出。 因為，徐玉娥是位大體老師，下星期就要被送上解剖台，這是林惠宗最後一次機會對著「完整的」老婆說話……
