I am in the whirl of time and space, traveling back and forth. What I can see and hear is the present; what we do and what I feel is no more than karma from the foretime.

Having witnessed civilians being oppressed, four young Taiwanese lawyers joined forces to form a team of defense attorneys. Over the past three years, while Taiwan was undergoing a major change, these attorneys kept their focus on serving the public through the several cases they had taken on.
They fought for the rights of older workers in a lawsuit between a group of displaced workers and the government. They were also involved in the efforts to subvert the military trial system as well as in the Sunflower Movement, where students occupied the legislative chamber. (by Taiwan Docs)

1990 in Taiwan

In the 1990s, Taiwanese authors begin to write books about social issues and philosophy. Meanwhile, numerous publishing houses retranslate several important classics including ”Essai sur les privileges” by Sieyès and ”L’Etranger” by Camus.

1996 to 2013 – Legal battle against National Alliance for Workers of Closed

Factories (NAWCF)

Since 1996, due to an offshore migration of industry, many textile and clothing factories shut down malignantly. Numerous labors lose their jobs without getting retirement pension or severance pay consequently. As a result, these labors form National Alliance for Workers for Close Factories (NAWCF) and successively carry out a series of protest activities until March 2014.

2002 – Case of Cheng Hsing-tse

Cheng is accused of shooting a police at a KTV in Taichung, and sentenced to death. However, the Supervision Institute considers that there are serious defects in evidence and the investigation process.

2012 – Broadcast of Les Misérables

Les Misérables, is a French historical novel written by Victor Hugo in 1862. It was first adapted into a French musical. It had played at the Palais des Sports in Paris for three months. Afterward, the musical was adapted into a British version, which began to become popular and has been playing in London since 1985. The film, Les Misérables, is adapted from the British musical and premiered in Taiwan on February 8, 2013.

2013 – Death of Hung Chung-chiu

Hung was going to finish military service on July 6, 2013, but died on 4 of July due to heat stroke and heat exhaustion during a drill. This case involves the issues of human rights in the military and whether the High Military Court has exclusive jurisdiction. Since it is an obligation for every Taiwanese man to serve in mandatory military service, the case causes a great deal of concern. The white-clad protest was made for the reform of the military and pushed for the human rights in the military. Interestingly, the representative song of the movement, Lí kám ū thiann-tioh Lán-ê Kua, composed by Dr. Yi-cheng Wu, is adapted from the revolutionary song “Do you Hear the People Sing?” in Les Misérables with Taiwanese lyrics.

2014 – Sunflower Student Movement

The Sunflower Student Movement, which is also known as March 18 Student Movement and Occupy Taiwan Legislature, was made since the legislator passed the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA) in the afternoon of 17 March 2014, without reviewing clause-by-clause. Therefore, from 18 March 2014 to 10 April 2014, Taiwanese college students, civic groups, and other citizens gather together and occupy the Taiwanese legislative chamber to call for supporting the establishment of a law for supervising the procedure of reviewing the agreement.

2014 Onwards

If a person is able to influence the other people and a country can impact other countries, can a group of people affect other different groups of people as well? If so, how long can such influence last?

--------
